With major league sports resuming, sports betting is also a hot topic. It’s still a comparatively new industry and the regulations around it are sometimes unclear. Fortunately, a few states are working to clarify it.
For example, the Massachusetts House recently passed a $459 Million economic development bill; the bill includes funding for local projects, non-profits affected by the COVID-19 shutdown, and language clarifying sports betting.
Specifically, the Massachusetts bill identifies three regulatory license categories for sports wagers; one for in-person and online at casinos, a second for in-person wagers at racetracks, and the third for digital-only and mobile sports wagers.
