International Game Technology, also known as IGT, and FanDuel recently announced that they are expanding their iGaming and sports betting agreement to now include the entire United States.
The deal means that International Game Technology’s PlaySports platform will now host every FanDuel sportsbook in the country. Likewise, FanDuel, will offer IGT’s PlayCasino games in the states where FanDuel operates online casinos. The new agreement is good through 2024.
What we cover
A Solid Bet on Continued Growth
Previously, the leaders in sports betting and iGaming had expanded their partnership on a state-by-state basis. In May, Colorado joined New Jersey, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and five other states to deliver the partnership’s cooperative sports betting offerings.
FanDuel and International Game Technology first teamed up in 2018 following the legalization of sports betting in the United States. That is the year when the Supreme Court struck down PASPA, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992. Until 2018, every state except Nevada was barred from authorizing sports betting.
The partnership began at The Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with a sportsbook on-site. Today, that joint venture between FanDuel and IGT continues to be the largest-volume retail sportsbook in the country.
In fact, June saw a $49.5 million in year-to-date gross online sports betting revenue for The Meadowlands, despite the COVID-19 shutdown. That’s well ahead of Resorts Casino, coming in at second-place with $33.2 million. No other gambling venue in New Jersey had double-digit gross revenue during that time.
Matt King, FanDuel’s CEO, noted that IGT technology was vital to its U.S. sportsbook expansion. Furthermore, IGT’s “PlayCasino content allows FanDuel to deliver high-quality mobile casino games in new and existing markets.”
Currently, FanDuel offers IGT PlayCasino games like Triple Red Hot 7s Free Games, Wheel of Fortune Triple Extreme Spin, and Red Hot Tamales embedded in its mobile sports betting apps, as well on websites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
About the IGT PlayCasino and PlaySports Platforms
IGT’s PlayCasino platform aggregates hundreds of games from five different game studios all over the world. The very best land-based games are hosted on the digital platform, as well as new titles designed exclusively for online play. IGT games are built in HTML5 to work perfectly on any type of device, from desktop to mobile, and Android to iOS. Games available on PlayCasino include slots, bingo, keno, and poker.
PlaySports technology solidifies International Game Technology’s position as the market leader in the United States as a flexible sports betting platform. The basis is a high-performance set of hardware as well as turnkey business options, for companies like FanDuel. International Game Technology is well able to support big commercial gaming operators, like FanDuel, as well as tribal casinos and lotteries.
For over ten years, International Game Technology has provided a sports betting platform not only in the US, but also in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Moreover, in 2018 alone, IGT platforms processed more than $12 billion in sports betting.
The IGT PlaySports software is not only available on mobile, but it can also be used for sports betting kiosks and retail sportsbooks. So far, IGT PlaySports is powering retail and online sportsbooks in eleven states, including Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Arkansas, Mississippi, Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York.
About FanDuel
FanDuel got its start at the 2009 SXSW in Austin Texas, following a backyard brainstorming session by its founders. The company began serving up fantasy sports, 365 days a year, 24/7. However, it didn’t take long for FanDuel to expand into real sports betting.
Following the Supreme Court ruling striking down PASPA in 2018, Irish sports betting company Paddy Power Betfair acquired FanDuel. Paddy Power Betfair has since changed its name to Flutter Entertainment. FanDuel immediately went on to forge the deal with International Game Technology to host the sportsbook at Meadowlands.
Today, FanDuel is right behind DraftKings when it comes to market share in the US sports betting market.
