What we cover
Live Televised Odds
For the first time ever, BetMGM worked with PGA TOUR to provide televised live betting odds – unified with both ‘Open’ and ‘Current’ odds – for all four rounds of THE CJ CUP.
Fans seemed excited about the new opportunity for sports betting, many looking forward to it before and during the Championship, hoping to try their luck and cash in on their favorite, or most likely to win players. The odds only furthered those interests.
The latest innovation from BetMGM took place between October 15th-18th during the broadcasting of THE CJ CUP at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. The live betting odd leaderboards were set twice an hour. The entire choices of live odds betting included multiple selections for odds to win, head-to-head matchups, top finishes, the winning margin, wire-to-wire winners, along with both hole-in-ones bets and playoff betting odds.
Directly from PGA TOUR, their Senior Vice President in both Media and Gaming, Norb Gambuzza praised the partnership, giving the statement, “We are excited to build upon our recently announced Official Betting Operator relationship with BetMGM by activating this partnership at THE CJ CUP @ SHADOW CREEK,” Afterwards he went on to explain how they hope to benefit from the partnership, continuing with how they hoped to engage their fans in ‘new and creative ways.’ In addition to the news release, Gambuzza went on to explain their first steps with integrating live odds on their TOUR digital platforms back in August and how they were looking forward to the future steps of moving the strategy to broadcasting it live on television.
On the other side, Matt Prevost, representing BetMGM as it’s Chief Marketing Officer also expressed their interest in the project on the news release, “We look forward to working with the PGA TOUR to integrate great experiences for BetMGM customers. BetMGM’s advanced betting technology, combined with the PGA TOUR’s world-class competitions and iconic players, will not only advance the TOUR’s position at the forefront of professional sports, but the entire betting industry as well.”
Referring back to Norb Gumbazza’s mention of previous integrations of BetMGM’s live odds with PGA TOUR, started back in Greensboro, North Carolina during the first two opening rounds of the Wyndham Championship. The live odds were set up on PGA TOUR Live, Tour’s streaming platform.
BetMGM
As we’ve mentioned before, BetMGM – one of the major gambling companies in New Jersey, and having been the first all-in-one gambling site in New Jersey – originally had signed a multi-year contract with PGA TOUR around August 3rd. The contract included BetMGM becoming one of TOUR’s few official betting operators (OBO), granting them the rights to exclusivities such as content and video rights, advertisement rights, and PGA TOUR mark permissions.
Another note from us, BetMGM isn’t only exclusive to partnering with PGA TOUR however, being one of New Jersey’s biggest gambling companies, they continue to expand, getting support from AGS (American Gaming Systems), that now provides real-money online casino content, along with BetMGM’s partnered brands.
Additionally, as a benefit from this partnership, PGA TOUR has become one of the most popular offerings on the platform. Currently, BetMGM is licensed in seven states, (Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, Nevada, and West Virginia) with plans to be licensed in eleven states by the end of 2020.
AGS and PGA TOUR aren’t the only ones making contracts with BetMGM either though, we’ve also recently covered their new partnership with Playtech software, who will be providing new award-winning casino games across the platforms.
Another addition from us, BetMGM has also taken to the celebrity approach for popularity, hiring Jamie Foxx for their new “King of Sportsbook” Marketing Campaign. The idea circles back to the 2004 film, “Shade”, where Foxx played as a card hustler named Larry Jennings.
The Marketing Campaign itself is planned to expand over both traditional, and social media ads.
Matt Pevost even calls the marketing campaign, “The next step in the evolution of the BetMGM brand.” He commented that the company “exists at the intersection of entertainment and sports and Jamie fits that positioning perfectly.”
All in all, BetMGM and PGA TOUR’s partnership has seemed to be one of preeminence, providing audiences with new and entertaining ways to participate in their favorite golf championships each year, as both companies improve with their technology and software extending to amazing heights over time. Hopefully, the excitement from audiences and gamblers from the sports community will lead to future additions of live television betting with odd reminders, as it’s a huge step for sports betting entirely.
