This December, the XL Winter Series sent 2020 off with a bang, giving 888poker players renewed hope for the New Year. The XL Winter Series played for 10 days at 888poker, from December 10 through the 20th, earning every winner a nice bankroll of Christmas cash.
The series featured 34 events spanning the ten days of the online poker tournament festival, with a total guaranteed prize pool of more than $1 million. The schedule proved to have something for every 888poker player, with a wide assortment of buy-ins starting as low as $5.50 and going up to the maximum of $320. The maximum buy-in of $320 offered 888poker players a $50,000 guaranteed prize which was reserved for XL Winter #17, held on December 17.
The festival kicked off with the opening event, XL Winter #1, a $50,000 guaranteed prize with a $109 buy-in. The online poker festival culminated with XL Winter #32, the $500,000 Main Event PKO, with a $250 buy-in. However, 888poker players could enter the Main Event through various satellites, where the buy-ins started as low as $0.01. That gave every 888poker player the chance to have a seat at the table in the XL Winter Series Main Event.
What we cover
More Than $1 Million in Prizes Awarded
By the time the 888poker XL Winter Series 34-event schedule concluded, the 11-day series had 29,765 entrants and awarded the lucky winners $1,332,200 in prize money.
Players from all over the world competed, but Belarus captured more than 20% of the titles, with seven victories. Eastern Europe ruled the Winter Series, with Romanians and Russians and grabbing four wins, Three players from the UK also were winners.
The winner of the Main Event was “Kazi070486” from Russia, taking home $34,684.54 from the Main Event, and KO $26,177.68, for a total of $60,862.22.
The final table was truly international, and it only took 90 minutes to go from nine players to a winner. One notable player at the final table was Gytis “peledazmogis” Lazauninkas from Lithuania.
He met his end when he made a preflop raise from “Acp0lle”. Lazauninkas pulled a straight draw holding queen-nine but failed to defeat “Acp0lle” with an ace-seven. “Acp0lle” went heads-up against Russia’s “Kazi070486”, with more than a 2:1 chip deficit. In the end, the Russian came out of the match victorious.
Other countries to claim titles were Serbia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Malta, and Brazil. Perhaps the next time around, an American 888poker player hailing from New Jersey could also claim a victory.
