Everything you need to know about New Jersey’s gambling scene in 2020

When it comes to gambling, there are a few obvious states in America to turn to. Nevada and Las Vegas are very popular, of course, as they have made an impact by providing innovative, forward thinking gambling options.

One state that takes the crown for gambling, though, is New Jersey.

New Jersey is known around the world for being an iconic gambling hub with plenty of brilliant casinos and sports bettors in action. The state is host to a number of wonderful companies, and has drummed up a fiercely dedicated audience of local gamblers. To put it plainly, if you’re a gambling fan then you need to head to New Jersey.

This hasn’t been a great year for the New Jersey gambling scene, though. The gambling industry in New Jersey has taken an immense hit in recent months with closures and financial strains running rampant. Everyone from small, local businesses to internationally known casinos have been feeling the impact this month.

Here at NJ Gambling Fun, we’re incredibly passionate about the New Jersey gambling scene. Today, we’ll be taking an in depth look at the last few months in New Jersey, and how the betting world has been affected.

Profits are at an all time low

One of the main things that is worth noting about the gambling scene in New Jersey right now is that profits are at an all time low. As reported by the New York Post, the Atlantic City gambling world is absolutely feeling the strain right now. It has been very difficult for businesses to keep moving- and profits were down by 65% in the first quarter of this year.

This has been tricky for both business owners and employees alike. So many businesses are being put under immense pressure to keep staff on furlough leave and to keep some level of normal work practice in place, but with such a severe lack of customers, the fear of dangerous environments and closures all across the country, it’s been very difficult. And, as we said before, post Covid-19 gambling restrictions are pretty weird, yet necessary.

Something interesting that has come out of this is that more people are turning to online gambling and sports betting. While this could be a positive thing for sports gambling as a whole, there are some people who are concerned that this may lead to more people having an issue with their gambling. We wrote a blog post about this- take a look here.

NJ businesses have been affected, which in turn impacting the gambling scene

As reported in this New York Post article, it’s not just casinos and betting shops that are being affected by the casino closures and the difficult economy. Nearby businesses have also been feeling the strain, as there simply is not the right number of customers around right now for business to continue as usual.

In particular, local restaurants, liquor stores, corner stores and cafes are particularly feeling the burn when it comes to this strange new world we find ourselves living in. One of the most important things that we can do as a community when we start returning to normalcy is to support local businesses and stores wherever possible.

Many workers are feeling the strain

Something that’s absolutely vital to highlight when it comes to this crisis is that workers and employees are absolutely feeling the strain. Many people are being placed on furlough, or even running the risk of losing their jobs due to the closures and limited working hours. This applies for casino workers and nearby business employees as well. this happened even when the government tried to help the struggling casino industry in AC.

While it is important that people are being kept out of harm’s way, it is vital to still acknowledge the strain and stress that this will be causing people in the industry. No matter whether someone works as a dealer, a chef, a cleaner or a manager, they’re going to be feeling very under pressure working in New Jersey’s gamblings scene right now.

Small businesses in particular are worried

It’s important to note that small businesses are being particularly affected by the closures and profit losses across the country right now. While the effects of the casino closures have undoubtedly affected big corporations and the people who work for them, it’s worth being mindful that small, local shops will be affected by this intensely.

Something great that you can do right now to help out with this is to reach out to local stores and creators online. Is the cafe near your favorite casino doing take away food? Can you share your favorite restaurant’s Instagram page? Small acts of kindness like this can help local businesses to stay afloat during these difficult times.

To sum up

As you can see, it’s been a very difficult year for the New Jersey gambling scene. So many businesses have been struggling in recent months due to closures and limited customers, and many have been finding it hard to deal with the new health and safety measures that are being put into place around the world as well. And the unfortunate reality is that we still have no clue when things are going to truly rebound.

While all of this change and disruption in the industry can be scary, it is worth remembering that this is an industry which has made a name for being resilient and adaptable. So many casinos and betting shops around the world are already moving to re open in a safe, manageable way, and we’re sure that New Jersey will bounce back too.

After all, New Jersey is one of the biggest and brightest names in the gambling scene. This state has made waves in the industry by continuing to provide top quality gambling entertainment and by advocating for more legalization in sports betting, and we are sure to continue to weather the storm as we head further into the year.
